Travelling Nativity
To mark the season of Advent, (which starts next Sunday), we are asking families to join with us in the tradition of the Posada.
The word Posada means ‘lodging’ or ‘inn’ and is traditionally a religious celebration honouring the birth of baby Jesus. It was created as a re-telling of the story of how Mary and Joseph were looking for a place to stay in the days leading up to the birth of Jesus.
We are borrowing this tradition and building on it to enable children to reflect on the journey Mary and Joseph made. We are asking families to ‘host’ the Holy Family for one night. One child from each class will be chosen to take home a cloth bag which contains a nativity set, a battery operated candle and a set script to support reflection.
The following morning please return the bag and its contents back to school and it will pass to the next family. Please be aware that not everyone will be able to have a turn this year but we will keep a record to ensure that those children will have the opportunity the following year.
We hope you feel able to join us in this and please feel free to adapt the prayers to meet your family and faith traditions.
