Sacred Heart teaches six Catholic Social Teaching principals through the Caritas programme, Rooted in Love.
Rooted in Love is a Religious Education resource for primary schools addressing the objectives relating to Catholic Social Teaching from the new Religious Education Directory, including prayer and liturgy ideas around each theme, as well as suggestions for bringing this work to life in the Catholic life and mission of the school.
Rooted in Love is split into 6 themes, one for each half term.
In addition to putting these principals into action in their every day lives at school, pupils have three main charity focuses each year- local, national and international. Below are some of the charities we have supported:
At our Harvest Festival on Thursday 10th October, we gave thanks to God for all He has provided. We also donated food to the our local foodbank in Ware.
CHARITY DAY 22nd MARCH 2024
Along with our other schools in the Trust, Sacred Heart raised money for the charity ACROSS.
The ACROSS charity does this in abundance by enabling people who need special care to go on pilgrimage. We especially looked at the JUMBULANCE which takes people on pilgimages to Lourdes.
We donated money to take part in an Easter breakfast, Easter raffle and have fun on a Jumpathon; we also wore Spring clothes. Jesus told us to be a neighbour and to help the sick and vulnerable. By raising money for charity, we are living out the Gospel Values in our daily lives.
Please take a look at some of our pictures of our day.
We raised an outstanding £850!
Thank you to all who donated- it is very much appreciated.
On Friday, 10th November the KS2 children (years 3 to 6) ran a Charity Day in aid of the CHIPS.
CHIPS is a charity in Hertfordshire which offers crucial support to over 225 families, of which there are some 250 children with additional needs and their siblings and covers the East Herts District Council and Broxbourne areas. CHIPS has built a reputation throughout the county and beyond as being the first scheme of its kind to offer this type of service.
The charity event took the form of a Talent Competition. Each class had a PSHE lesson linked to how CHIPS helps young people and their families. Following this, children performed their act to their own class mates . The two acts voted as the best in each class competed in front of the whole school in the hall during the afternoon. The act with the most votes from the whole school will be crowned the winner!
The school raised £ 315
