Thursday 29th June
We had a lovely evening yesterday; the children played table tennis, football and pétanque. Everyone was full of beans at bedtime but all quiet, lights out and sleeping by half eleven. This morning started with a lovely pain au chocolate breakfast and the children discovered the delights of speculoos. We made our lunches and are now on the coach heading towards Belgium.
Had a brilliant day today. First we went to the cathedral in Ypres for a St. Peter and St. Paul liturgy. The children sang beautifully in the cathedral. Then we looked around In Flanders Field museum. The children were inquisitive, interested and very respectful. We visited Tyne Cot and Langemark cemeteries. Then it was lunch time. After lunch we visited Passchendale museum where the children experienced life in a dug out and life in the trenches. Dinner time was snail time. Matthew was first up, then everyone else (nearly everyone else) tucked in. Ben found the whole experience hilarious: it was in his mouth, it was out, it was in again. I'm not sure if it was swallowed in the end. Joshua ate three and declared them "so nice. I'd have ten if I could." At the moment we are enjoying a glorious sunny evening, playing table tennis, extreme table tennis, pétanque and football. None of us can believe it's our last night- the time has passed so quickly.
Everyone had a good night's sleep. One room of boys were so worn out they went to sleep before lights out. One boys' room looks like a suitcase has exploded in it (hint: Joshua is in that room). Another boys' room was nearly late for breakfast due to hair styling. The girls all had extravagant braids this morning and Ronnie's snoring is so horrendous his roommate looks like a zombie this morning. Everyone is happy and looking forward to the day ahead.
We've all enjoyed another busy day. We started with a town trail round St Omer. Then it was off to the hyper market where the children purchased traditional French minions and traditional French fidget spinners! Lunch followed with lots of running around and a game of rounders. Our last visit of the day was the chocolate factory where we had a taste of hand made French chocolate. Back to the Chateau for another delicious dinner. Tonight's activity will be the scavenger hunt.
Tuesday 27th June
After a safe arrival the children are settling in well.
